These are the relevant documents and resources that will help you understand the assemblies of Occupy Portland:

Occupy Portland Consensus Philosophy – this explains the approach to consensus adopted by Occupy Portland.

Spokes Council Structure Document – this is the structure document that explains the functioning of the Occupy Portland Spokes Council.

Idea, Announcement or Proposal Diagram – this is a document and diagram that is meant to help provide information about whether an idea an individual has is an announcement, something they can begin to work on immediately or a proposal that needs to come before either the Spokes Council or the General Assembly. It is an informational resource only and is meant to help.

Agenda Setting Meeting Notetaking Template – this is a template for the Monday Agenda Setting Meeting and is meant to aid the collection of proposals for the Spokes Council and General Assembly in a clear and consistent way. These notes should always be posted immediately after the meeting here.

Facilitation Orientation and Users Manual – this is the document used by the Facilitation Team to orient new facilitators, and otherwise inform the team of facilitators as to our process and how to facilitate in a consistent and effective manner. It is oriented to those individuals that are members of the Facilitation Team and not the public, however, it is still a useful document to learn more about the Occupy Portland assembly structure and decision making process.

Great resources for everything you need to know about how to plan your action, what type of action works for your group, and how to successfully execute your action, are available for free online.  Here are links to some of the great resources out there. More available here.

Recommended resources:

The Network for Climate Action in the UK has some great resources on planning direct actions. Please check this out if you are looking for different ideas! They have a break down of a lot of creative and effective tactics. These include ideas, roles, preparing for actions and so much more.

The Ruckus Society has a variety of excellent resources. They have an Action Planning Manual, an great primer on Security Culture for Activists, and a guide to making creative visuals for direct actions.

Organizing for Power, Organizing for Change offers a good overview of direct actions and also has a lot of other resources and links on the website.

ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) has a great resource on planning civil disobedience actions. It includes history, action planning, roles and a lot more important information.

SmartMeme offers amazing resources for thinking about how to plan actions in a way that creates compelling narratives about the world we want to create. Re:Imagining Change is especially useful and free, though donate if you can.
