Do you believe that the non-violent methods of Mahatma Ghandi and Dr. Martin Luther King are the only ones appropriate for Occupy Portland? Do you think that the Black Bloc and property destruction send strong messages to the 1%?
The 99% are a diverse group – from diverse backgrounds, with diverse histories. Methods that have worked in the past may or may not work in the future. It’s up to all of us to unite in agreement on the best methods and continue forward into the unknown but with the knowledge that SOMETHINGmust be done in a way that will keep us strong. It’s important for all to attend.
This Tuesday, Feb. 21st, the Occupy Portland Movement Building Open Forum will be focusing on this topic. Come to St. Francis at 7PM to discuss, as a community, our next steps forward as our skill-sets, knowledge, and tactics progress. An incredibly important discussion will be taking place to help Occupy Portland ground itself in values we can all agree to as we enter the American Spring.
Deepen your well of knowledge on the Black Bloc and other diverse tactics by checking out the Portland Occupier series on the Black Bloc.
Also, check out the proposal that is coming up for general assembly consensus with regards to community agreements around a diversity of tactics. It’s based on the 2008 agreements made by a very diverse group in St. Paul at the Republican National Convention demonstrations.
How can hurting the 99% be called tactical. The 1% want you to be violent and to do property damage. Only when everyone agrees to non-violence can you tell the difference between the agents of the 1% and the Occupiers!
Do you have a Non – violent committee and classes?
Dear Occupy Portland,
Thank you, thank you for considering the use of force (i.e., property destruction) as one of your tactics. We didn’t know how to deal with your successful non-violent approach, but we do know exactly how to deal with force. And we will always, always win at force. Thank you again.
